1. What is a Virtual Freelance Paralegal (VFP)?
The National Federation of Paralegal Associations defines the freelance
paralegal as:
"A freelance paralegal, also known as a contract paralegal, is no
different than a traditional paralegal except to the extent that s/he is not
employed by an attorney in a traditional setting such as a law firm,
governmental entity or corporation. Rather, a freelance paralegal is
retained on an as-needed basis by many supervising attorneys in these
settings. Freelance paralegals are educated and qualified to perform
paralegal work just the same as traditionally-employed paralegals."
2. What is the advantage of retaining a VFP?
VFPs only work when needed. That means you don't have to pay a VFP
for anything but billable time – no overhead, no insurance, no vacation or
sick time, no taxes. It is an efficient and profitable way for attorneys to
outsource their labor and increase revenues without interrupting the
continuity of the work. By turning over their paralegal and administrative
needs to a trained, experienced freelance professional, Nebraska
attorneys can achieve a win-win position by fulfilling their paralegal needs
at no risk to their bottom line.
3. How can I save money with a VFP?
When an attorney retains the services of a VFP, that professional is only
getting paid when billable work is generated. For example, if an attorney
bills their client $85 an hour for paralegal time and is paying a VFP $25
an hour and the paralegal bills 30 hours a week, that paralegal earns
$750 while the law firm bills $2550.
4. What do you mean by 100% Billable?
The most critical component to the success of an attorney is billable time.
TPS guarantees that our services are 100% billable. Unlike full-time staff
members, our VFPs do not have any unproductive time in the service
provided to attorneys.
